Sustainable aviation fuels produce greenhouse gas emissions when burned

Sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) will not be capable of completely eliminating direct emissions from aircraft. SAFs still produce greenhouse gas emissions when burned, similar to conventional jet fuels, and existing SAFs reduce direct emissions from burning jet fuel by at most 80%.1
