Airliners and aircraft manufacturers have invested heavily in sustainable aviation fuels

The aviation industry has already invested billions of dollars into the development and use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). There have been numerous joint ventures launched that bring together airliners, aircraft manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers, and other private investors to expand the SAF industry. In the summer of 2024, Airbus announced their Sustainable Aviation Fuel Financing Alliance (SAFFA) which brings together seven companies and over 200millionincapital.[1]Thatsameyear,UnitedAirlineslaunchedtheUnitedAirlinesVenturesSustainableFlightFund,whichhassecured200 million in capital.[^1] That same year, United Airlines launched the United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund, which has secured 200 million in investment from 22 companies.1

Airliners and manufacturers have also made ambitious purchases of sustainable aviation fuels in the last few years. Boeing recently announced plans to purchase 9.4 million gallons of blended SAF — a fuel made up of 30% SAF and 70% conventional jet fuel.2 American Airlines intends to purchase 620 million gallons of SAF between 2025 and 2030.3
