Primary steel production remains the predominant form of steel production in the world.

According to the World Steel Association, approximately 70% of global steel production comes from primary production methods, primarily using blast furnaces and basic oxygen furnaces (BOF), which involve processing iron ore. The remaining 30% is produced from recycled steel using electric arc furnaces (EAF) and other methods.1
